How to Layer Fragrance Without Smelling Like a Duty-Free Aisle

Most layering advice tells you to combine two fragrances. That is the advanced version and it usually goes wrong. Start with the version that works every time: build a single scent from the skin up.
The three-stage stack
- Unscented or matched body wash. A competing shower gel undercuts everything above it.
- Unscented moisturiser on the areas you will spray. Hydrated skin holds fragrance far longer than dry skin.
- Your EDP on pulse points, four to six sprays maximum.
If you do want to combine two fragrances
Combine complementary families, not competing ones. Woody with woody, citrus over woody. Never two dense oriental scents. Apply the heavier one first and to a lower point on the body, and use half the usual sprays of each.
