The 6 Pulse Points That Make Fragrance Last Longer

A man in low light, illustrating where on warm skin fragrance is best applied

Pulse points are places where blood vessels sit close to the surface. The skin there is warmer, and warmth drives the evaporation that carries scent into the air around you.

The six

  • Base of the neck — the most useful single spot, closest to conversation height.
  • Behind the ears — subtle, close range, good for daytime.
  • Inner wrists — classic, but avoid if you wash your hands often.
  • Inner elbows — protected from sun and sweat, holds well.
  • Centre of the chest — under a shirt, releases slowly through the day.
  • Behind the knees — rises through the day, useful in a kurta or loose trousers.

Where not to spray

Not directly into your hair, which is dry and alcohol strips it further. Not into your armpits, where deodorant already lives and the two will clash. Not onto a shirt if the fragrance has a dark base — resins stain.

A four-spray routine that works

Shower, moisturise lightly, then two sprays at the neck, one on the chest, one at an inner elbow. Four to six sprays is the ceiling for an EDP. More is not stronger, it is just louder to everyone except you.
